The goal of the present scientific research was to study possibilities of improvement of systemic and regional microcirculation after their local irradiation with polychromatic visible + IR light and with visible light only at therapeutic dose ranges.

Q Light® in action

The University Hospital of Gent in Belgium (Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) has many years experience in the application of phototherapy in areas such as second degree burns, pressure sores, diabetic and venous leg ulcers and both accidental and surgical wounds. Successful results have been achieved using a range of phototherapy devices including low power laser and the Bioptron proprietary system.

The Hospital was therefore asked to try Q.Light® PRO for a year in a variety of applications in its Outpatient Clinic and its Burns Centre. In June 2007 they reported on their experience and the advantages of Q.Light® PRO over other devices. Their findings confirmed the advantages of Q.Light® PRO in three main areas:

1) Larger treatment areas, which allowed for a reduction in treatment time.

2) Ability to exclude infra-red light (felt as heat) making therapy less painful for burn patients.

3) Adjustable spectrum, allowing patient-specific therapy.

Conditions for which Q.Light® PRO were used included chemical burns, abdominal wounds, post-surgical recovery, pressure sores, diabetic 'scald', flame wounds, oil scalds, skin tears and venous ulcers. They therefore covered a range of acute and chronic wounds encountered during in the hospital over the twelve month period.
