Light
Therapy and It's Applications
Safe,
drug-free and non-intrusive Q.Light® natural therapies for everyone
Q.Light®
Therapy is not 'alternative' medicine
Phototherapy by visible light frequencies
is just a small but important part of the range of diagnostic and therapeutic
treatments derived from the electro-magnetic spectrum, ranging from
radio and infra red lasers at one end to X-rays and radiology at the
other. It has been practised for centuries and as long ago as 1903 the
Nobel Prize for medicine was awarded for the investigation and clinical
application of light therapy.
With the exception of Photodynamic Therapy for skin cancer, Q.Lights®
work simply by stimulating the body's own repair and regenerative mechanisms,
so they can be used alone or in conjunction with other therapies. Q.Lights®
do not emit ultra-violet light.
Advantages of Q.Light® Therapy over low-power
laser therapy
Q.Lights® are non-laser
devices, so there is no annual statutory license fee to pay.
Large treatment areas, up to 40cm diameter
No protective goggles required; therapy may be conducted
in rooms open to free movement of staff or visitors.
Pain-free, patient friendly treatments which can safely be
backed up in between consultations by simpler home therapy devices.
Application
and Use Index:
Q.Light® Therapy for BURNS
SPECIALISTS
Q.Light® wound care therapy in many
cases reduces the need for surgery in treatment of deep dermal burns,
if applied immediately after submission. Within this group of patients,
the use of polarised light accelerates wound healing and allows very early
pressure therapy, thus reducing hypertrophic scarring and contractures.
By stimulating natural healing and immune response, a patient's stay in
hospital can be minimised and with better aesthetic and functional results,
especially for burns of the hands. Polarised light therapy has become
the first therapy choice for deep dermal burns in many hospitals and burn
centres.
Q.Light® PRO in conjunction with the filter module 'Wound Care excluding
infra-red' delivers visible light only in the 385-785nm range.
Q.Light® Therapy for WOUND
CARE
In acute wounds Q.Light® Therapy has
a systemic effect, promoting wound healing by arresting inflammations,
alleviating pain, activating the immune response, improving perfusion
and revascularisation, increasing lymphatic drainage and generally improving
the metabolism.
Chronic wounds such as stasis ulcers/leg ulcers, and decubitus/pressure
sores also respond well and Q.Light® is effective in treating diabetic
gangrene.
Q.Light® PRO
in conjunction with the filter module 'Wound Care including infra-red'
delivers visible and near infra-red light in the 385-1,700nm range. Alternatively
where the heating effect of infra-red is not desired, such as in burns
or infected wounds, the filter module 'Wound Care excluding infra-red'
delivers visible light only in the 385-785nm range.
Q.Light® Therapy for
COSMETIC SURGEONS
Q.Light® Therapy can promote healing
and help to avoid infection or post-procedural complications following
surgery, face peels and laser treatments such as tattoo removal. General
benefits as for WOUND CARE above.
Q.Light®
Therapy for DERMATOLOGISTS
Q.Light® Therapy treats psoriasis, neurodermatitis,
atopic dermatitis and dry skin conditions. It does not claim to offer
a total cure but can be used alone or to support various forms of skin
treatments. Special dermatological creams can be applied before or after
the light treatment. Take-up of moisturisers by the skin is increased
following Q.Light® Therapy and there have been no reported side effects
or contra-indications.
Unlike many phototherapy treatments for dermatitis, Q.Light® PRO does
not emit ultra-violet light.
In conjunction with the filter module 'Psoriasis Care' it delivers visible
light only in the 385-780nm range. In conjunction with the filter module
'Acne Care' it delivers visible blue light only in the 385-500nm range
and treats up to 35cm diameter.
Since these are long term conditions, liable to sudden and unpredictable
outbreaks, patients may also wish to purchase a Q.Light® Psoriasis
Care, Q.Light® Acne Care or Q.Light® Home Care unit to use at
home.
Q.Light®
Therapy for PAIN
Pain is a highly subjective experience.
It can stem from many complex and interlinked causes, both physical and
psychological and different patients will respond in different ways. It
is important to stress that Q.Light® Therapy cannot offer an all-purpose
remedy, but it can assist in muscular strains such as sports injuries
and rheumatic and arthritic conditions, reducing inflammation and associated
pain. Some people also find it helpful in reducing pain from cosmetic
and related procedures such as epilation.
Q.Light® PRO
in conjunction with the filter module 'Pain Care' delivers visible red
and near infra-red light in the 580-1,700nm range.
Q.Light®
Therapy for SKIN CANCER SPECIALISTS
Q.Light® PRO with the PDT Therapy filter
module inserted delivers red and near infra-red incoherent light in the
range 620-780nm. With an intensity of 70mW/cm2 (4.2J/cm2) at max treatment
distance 15cm, this is similar in nature and intensity to the light delivered
by specialised PDT Light sources. The PDT Diagnosis filter module delivers
blue light in the range 385-480nm.
Photodynamic Therapy
(PDT) requires the use of special photosensitising creams, such as Metvix®,
and neither b&p AG, Switzerland, the manufacturers of Q.Light®,
nor Timelines UK Ltd. supply these creams nor do we train or advise in
their use. Q.Light® PDT filter modules should therefore only be sold
to specialists who are already familiar with this field of therapy.
Q.Light® PRO
is manufactured in volume to serve a broad platform of different applications,
simply by inserting different filter modules, so the cost for PDT is highly
competitive. We understand that rival equipment currently used in PDT
was reduced quite recently from €20,000 to €12,000. Medilux
Healthcare Ltd. direct sale price for Q.Light® PRO on the PRO-Plus
stand with both PDT filter modules is a little over £4,000.
Q.Light®
Therapy for SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER
The benefits of phototherapy for S.A.D.
are widely known and acknowledged. Q.Light® PRO in conjunction with
the filter module 'S.A.D. Care' delivers visible light in the 420-780nm
range, with intensity 10,000Lux at 40cm treatment distance. The light
is more stable and more evenly spread across the stated frequency range
than with many fluorescent tube based products.

Therapy for ACNE
Scientific studies and empirical reports
show individual cases of acne can be significantly reduced or even completely
healed by regular exposure to Q.Light®. As individual treatment
sessions are very short Q.Light® therapy can easily be integrated
into traditional - local or systemic - regimens of acne therapy.
The average dose is 9.6 J/cm2, applied once per day. For optimal results
it is recommended to clean the area to be treated with a mild cleanser,
then direct the Q.Light® beam at a right angle to the treatment
area. Treatment times per session are:

Q.Light® Therapy for PAIN
Q.Light® can be an ideal complementary
treatment to a variety of pain management programmes and its beneficial
influence can affect the patient's general condition as well as pain
symptoms. The average dose applied to the region of pain is around 12J/cm2
to 24J/cm2.
For optimal results Q.Light® therapy should be applied daily, twice
per day, but in acute stages sometimes three to four times per day.
The light beam is directed at a right angle to the area to be treated
and in cases of joint treatment it is possible to extend the therapy
without danger. No side effects or contra-indications have been reported.

Q.Light®
Therapy for PSORIASIS, DERMATITIS and dry skin conditions
Q.Light® Therapy can offer relief
for people with psoriasis conditions. As individual treatment sessions
are short, it can easily be integrated into a standard psoriasis care
programme depending on indication. The average dose applied to psoriasis
is around 12J/cm2 and the beneficial and regenerating effect of the
Q.Light® Therapy can be used to support various forms of skin treatments.
Special dermatological creams can be applied before or after the light
treatment. Any residue of cream should be wiped away if applied before
commencing the light treatment. Q.Light® therapy offers relief of
itching within days. The condition normally improves within the first
two weeks, however in some cases it is very difficult to achieve total
regeneration of the skin. It is recommended to continue long term Q.Light®
Therapy after initial symptom response, to regulate the immune system
and moderate future flare-ups.
Q.Light® therapy is applied for just a few minutes once or twice
per day. In order to use the Q.Light® system effectively, the skin
should be cleansed before exposure to the light. Side effects and contraindications
have not been reported. It is advisable to check longer lasting skin
conditions with a specialist to receive additional professional advice.

Q.Light®
Therapy for WOUNDS and BURNS
Typically, wound healing takes place in
three interlinking phases: endogenous purification, granulation and
epithelialization.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In the initial treatment phase of chronic wounds
some patients' wounds may respond to light treatment with rapid closure
at the edge of the wound site. In these cases light therapy should be
discontinued for a few days for the system to adjust and allow healing
to proceed evenly. Recommence light therapy after this short period
according to the treatment indications below.
For optimal results Q.Light® therapy should be applied on a daily
basis, with the light beam directed at a right angle to the area under
treatment. The average dose applied to wounds is 12J/cm2.

INFRA-RED
Infra red light produces a warming effect and stimulates blood circulation
which may promote healing. It is not recommended to apply infra
red light to infected wounds or to burns, therefore the Wound Care
Filter Modules are available with and without infra red, for patients
to choose which they require. Q.Light Wound Care does not produce
infra red light and requires no filter.
BURN WOUNDS
Q.Light® therapy can reduce the
need for surgery in the treatment of deep dermal burns, if applied
immediately after admission to hospital. Within this group of patients,
the use of light therapy accelerates wound healing and allows for
early pressure therapy, therefore reducing hypertrophic scarring
and contractures. In addition shortened hospitalization results
in cost benefits and increased patient satisfaction. This form of
light therapy has become first choice for deep dermal burns in many
hospitals and specialist burn centres.

Q.Light®
Therapy for SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER
For optimal results with Q.Light®
S.A.D. therapy, it is important to apply an effective dose for adequate
biological response. The light beam is directed from the front, directly
onto the face and the treatment should be applied on a daily basis.
It is not necessary to look directly into the light beam! One can read
a book or magazine whilst receiving the light therapy.
Some studies have reported positive responses in patients with non-seasonal
depression, premenstrual syndrome (late luteal dysphoria), bulimia,
and alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Beneficial results have also been obtained
by using the known capacity of light administration and light restriction
to shift circadian rhythms.

Penetration
of light through the skin
Optical Window

Light enters,
through our skin and eyes, as energy oscillation into our body. As a result,
many biological functions are regulated. The visible light spectrum is
able to influence skin, tissue and blood cells positively and therefore
is suitable for both healing and cosmetic applications. Light-induced
effects are first achieved in the skin and afterwards distributed throughout
the entire body. Affected cells optimize their functions and improve cell
communication capability resulting in visible effects.
Q.Light® light
therapy is a valuable complement for every cosmetic treatment. In a beauty
institute or even at home, you will discover and enjoy the advantages
and simplicity of this therapy.
